چکیده
Methods Search Strategy We searched the Cochrane Stroke Group Trials Register (last searched June 2003). In addition, the following electronic databases were searched: Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Cochrane Library, Issue 4, 2002), MEDLINE (1966 to December 2002), EMBASE (1980 to December 2002), CINAHL (1982 to December 2002), SPORTDiscus (1949 to December 2002), Science Citation Index Expanded (1981 to December 2002), Web of Science Proceedings (1982 to December 2002), PEDro (December 2002), REHABDATA (1956 to December 2002), and Index to UK Theses (1970 to December 2002). We hand-searched relevant journals and conference proceedings and screened reference lists. To identify unpublished and ongoing trials, we searched trial directories and contacted experts in the field.

Physical fitness training for patients with stroke: updated review.
Objectives The primary aim of the review was to determine whether physical fitness training (cardiorespiratory training and/or resistance training) after stroke reduces death, dependence, and disability at the end of intervention or at the end of follow-up. The secondary aim was to determine the effects of fitness training on physical fitness, mobility, physical function, health status and qual...

متن کاملTreadmill exercise rehabilitation improves ambulatory function and cardiovascular fitness in patients with chronic stroke: a randomized, controlled trial.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Physical inactivity propagates disability after stroke through physical deconditioning and learned nonuse. We investigated whether treadmill aerobic training (T-AEX) is more effective than conventional rehabilitation to improve ambulatory function and cardiovascular fitness in patients with chronic stroke. METHODS Sixty-one adults with chronic hemiparetic gait after isc...
متن کاملPhysical fitness training in Subacute Stroke (PHYS-STROKE) - study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
BACKGROUND Given the rising number of strokes worldwide, and the large number of individuals left with disabilities after stroke, novel strategies to reduce disability, increase functions in the motor and the cognitive domains, and improve quality of life are of major importance. Physical activity is a promising intervention to address these challenges but, as yet, there is no study demonstrati...
متن کاملThe Effect of Partial Weight Support with Ground Walking Training on Temporal and Spatial Gait in Patients with Chronic Stroke
Background. There have been many studies on partial weight support walking training. However, most studies have been performed in treadmill settings, not in actual walking environments. Objectives. This study aimed to investigate the effect of partial weight support ground walking training on the temporal and spatial gait parameters of chronic stroke patients. Methods. This study was designed...
متن کاملFunctional Exercise and Physical Fitness Post Stroke: The Importance of Exercise Maintenance for Motor Control and Physical Fitness after Stroke
It is argued that all stroke patients, indifferent of disability, have the same possibility to improve with training. The aim of the study was to follow and register functional improvements in two groups with different functional capacities at baseline for a period of 36 months. Stroke patients were recruited and divided into groups related to their functional status at baseline. During the acu...
